DIAMOND
18 Months almost exactly, we brought home only the 4th pit bull we had ever rescued.

She was a beauty at just 10 months old.
She lost her family b/c they didnt' have insurance coverage on her, a requirement in the state of Ohio.
And, was turned over to a kill shelter that does not adopt pit bulls out to the general public, sealing her fate ...

We did not have room for her, but we did have a pre-approved adopter for her, and, her stay was to be a short one!

As things are with rescue, sometimes you get the complete unexpected ...
I brought her home from the pound only to find a message on my machine from her future mama saying they couldn't get her ...

But, here she was ...

And, she was staying.

The pictures of Diamond with other dogs are few and far between.
While Diamond had a clear understanding of the difference between human aggression and dog aggression, she had to help us learn!
She gave us a hard lesson in the heritage of pit bulls.

She is just SO INCREDIBLE with people...

so we kept trying her with other dogs...
until the day she tried to eat Emma ...

Well, she didnt' eat Emma and Emma moved on home ...

But we learned to stop forcing situations upon Diamond that she just was not comfortable with.

Understand that these dogs were selectively bred by humans to be aggressive towards other dogs.
The degree of dog aggession in each dog may vary, but current or potential owners need to be aware of the potential and
understand that this is a breed trait that cannot be loved or trained away, but responsibly managed.
These dogs are wonderful, as you will see below, and are worth the extra viligence!
But, as all breeds, pit bulls are not for everyone. Please do your research and be owned responsibly!!

Other than dogs, Diamond could do it all ...

Training ...

Therapy ...

Babies, cuddling...

a sense of humor ...

Swimming...

... EVERYTHING.

Why was no one falling in love with our Diamond??

When a year went by, we tried everything ... i sent out crossposts, put her in the newspaper, the folks at Smilin' Pit Bull Rescue made her a page here :
http://www.spbr.org/featuredpets/khdiamond/diamond.htm

Still, nothing
NOTHING.

Diamond spent so much time in our kennels.
Thankfully, she never got kennel crazy.

Some groups may suggest euthanizing a dog like Diamond ... for many reasons, dog aggression, her breed, being kennelled for a long time ...

It broke our hearts that she sat in her kennel for soooo long without a family ...

but we knew the right family was out there for this AMAZING, WONDERFUL dog!

About a month ago, we met some folks who were thrilled beyond belief that no one had yet scooped up this mush of a dog!

And, Monday night, they came to take her home .. FOREVER.

Diamond spent her last hours with us in our living room ...

Suckling ...

And suckling ...

And, suckling some more ...

She had NEVER done this, until her new parents came to meet her for the first time.
I guess she figured we all thought it was so adorabull that she should do it ALL THE TIME now!!!

"Yeah, I soaked the WHOLE bed ..."

"Who's at the door?"

"Hey, I know those people!!"

A final kiss for Foster Mom ...

A nice pose ...

"Let me get foster DAD!!!"

"Thank you for everything Foster Daddy!"

"now ... you all want to see my PARENTS, don't ya?!?!"

"Well, here they are ...
... And, they make me soo happy I could sing LIKE ELVIS ...
... HEY BABY!!!"

"and i'm totally never ever out of kisses!"

"I Love you Dad and Mom!"
