Luke is a beautiful, smart, young dog with tons of puppy energy. He is around 15 months old. He loves playing with us and the other dogs here. He has gorgeous golden eyes and in the sunlight, dark brown is visible in his soft fur.
Luke is working on his positive re-enforcement obediance training. He catches on to new things quickly and enjoys learning. He is very attentive and is doing great with his training. Luke knows sit-stay, down-stay, come, and shake. He also sits before going out a door - and that little (or not so little!) butt never hits the floor faster than at feeding time, as Luke knows he must sit before receiving his meal. In addition, Luke has mastered the crowd-pleasing gift of catching a treat in mid-air :) He does still pull on his leash during walks, but is improving over time.
Luke's intelligence has not gone over-looked as he was very recently evaluated to become a service dog. The head trainer for the service dogs absolutely loved him. He was in an office for just a couple of hours and had already learned how to open the automatic door. However, a service dog has to also be physically 100%. Unfortunately, it was found that Luke has a little bit of arthritis in one of his back legs and he could not be accepted into the program. The arthritis is not visible in his actions; he does not limp or appear to be in pain. It will not keep him from making a wonderful companion.
With Luke's personality, he would love a home that would continue his training as he enjoys working and it is a great way for him to expend some of his energy. He absolutely loves running freely in a fenced yard. He does okay in a crate, but if people are near, he would much rather be out to play and be with them.
Luke loves his rawhides and can't resist a good game of fetch. He enjoys kids and does not have an aggressive bone in his body. He is a little grabby when taking treats, but he is working on that and getting better.
